Our Mission
To preserve and promote 総裁 倍達 大山 Sosai Masutatsu Oyama's vision of Kyokushinkai Kan Karatedō. In 1957, the name “Kyokushin” or “Ultimate Truth” was adopted for Sosai's Karate Organization, which had 700 members by then, despite the high drop-out rate due to the severity of training. Nevertheless, practitioners of other styles also came from around the world to train under him in Jis-sen Kumite (full-contact fighting).

国際 極真会 空手道 合 リべラ 道場 International Kyokushinkai Karatedō Union & イクウ ニヨク リべラ 道場 Rivera Dōjō's (IKU NYC) main objective is to promotes Traditional 極真会館 空手道 Kyokushinkai Kan Karatedō via 只管 スエット Shikan Suetto  or Just to Sweat, which means that one encompasses and embodies one's training to transcend oneself, which manifests in all facets of one's life. This tenet: to leave one's Ego at the door is at the forefront of one's Karatedō (Empty-Handed Way), which is a Path or Road, hence, the Dō, which represents one's journey in one's life.

Furthermore, the entire essence of one's training is for one to lose one's Ego, i.e., the removal of one's Ego-laden perspectives and to encompass a loving, compassionate, empathetic Way of life via non-discriminatory paradigms, which is known as Equanimity (Equality). We are all brothers and sisters or Karatekas 空手家 (practitioners) of Karatedō. So, with this in mind, we help one another and bow humbly to one another as a representation of ourselves, because being respectful, which is displayed via our bowing and saying "OSU!" only underscores our lack of Ego and that we are no better than anyone else, in fact we are all the same even though we are separate Sentient Beings.

                     Our Story
International Kyokushinkai Union (IKU) offers serious physical and spiritually education, which are practices of the mind, body, and spirit, in which combines the discipline of the Eastern culture and the hard-work of the American spirit. Now, IKU's Founder and Chief Instructor Kaichō David Farzinzad has dedicated himself to Sosai's vision and pays homage to him in furthering Sosai's vision of Kyokushinkai Kan Karatedō.

国際 極真会 連合 International Kyokushinkai Union's goal is to preserve and promote Sosai Masutatsu Oyama's vision and maxims of Kyokushikai Kan Karatedō. This in short, pertains to oneself that consistently pushes oneself in one's everyday training, which transcends into all aspects of ones life. One can only achieve this by dedication, discipline, and veracity. I.e., show up, train hard, and Just Sweat (Shikan Suetto).

Therefore, イクウ ニヨク IKU NYC instills the aforesaid tenets and ensures the True meaning of the Way, which is in our 道場 誓約 Dōjō Seiyaku or School Oath/Pledge below that is orated prior to the conclusion of every class to remind us of why we train as well as our Dō or Path.

• We will train our hearts and bodies for a firm unshaken spirit.
• We will pursue the true meaning of the Martial Way, so that in time, our senses may be alert.
• With true vigor, we will seek to cultivate a spirit of self-denial.
• We will observe the rules of courtesy, respect our superiors, and refrain from violence.
• We will follow our religious principles and never forget the true virtue of humility.
• We will look upwards to wisdom and strength, not seeking other desires.
• All our lives, through the discipline of karate, we will seek to fulfill the Way of the Strong Foundation (or we will seek to fulfill the True Meaning of the Way).
